Hot Topic: Out of the Blue... (Mailbox)!

In the photo, Raymond Law, Program Planning Director and a shipset of hardware for a single-aisle customer.

One of the biggest problems in Inflight Entertainment is trying to keep up with the plethora of manufacturers who are vying for presence in our industry. This year's AIX was no exception and one we missed was SkyGem, a new entrant, based in California with R&D headquartered in Hong Kong (China). Last week, we received an email from Gillian Tam, the US sales coordinator  who caught us a bit by surprise and it looks like the disconnect occurred because their hardware was, at least initially, lost in Heathrow's notorious Terminal #5. In her note, Gillian writes about the company:

"SkyGem, a young multinational networking company, is active in the in-flight entertainment and communications market, headquartered in Silicon Valley in the US with other offices in the Greater China. Our Sky1000 system, a complete IFE solution, is designed to provide revolutionary features to the airlines and its passengers and make their vision on us become widespread reality. We are pleased that our display of the SKY1000 IFE system at AIX Hamburg has raised much interest of many airlines and the 'BIG names' aircraft manufacturers."

Unfortunately, the SkyGem sales staff was traveling when we called but we gleaned that SkyGem is a product of VC and "big industry" money (probably from China or Taiwan). The company looks to be in infancy with IFE hardware but we liked the spirit of their website www.skygemcorp.com - "The Best & Most Reliable IFE Manufacturer!" We will let our readers take it from here and you might start by contacting Gillian first: Gillian Tam, SkyGem Corporation, 930 Benecia Ave., Sunnyvale, CA 94085, USA - email:  gillian.tam@skygemcorp.com OR China Office, SkyGem China, Unit 610, 6/F, Building 15, No.8 Science Park West Avenue, Hong Kong Science Park, Shatin, NT, Hong Kong.

After Thought: Check out this link... this really happened on a train, why not a plane?
