Hot Topic: Good Karma At AIX

At the AIX Conference we got a peek at a lot of new technology and our goal is to share that knowledge with our readers. The Panasonic booth is always a winner because they share their latest IFE concepts with show goers in their "Cool Room" and if you were not in attendance here is one product that we would like to see in production. While we have not seen the "Karma" controller as a COTS product, it is an idea that would sure clean up the clutter in front of our TV, however, it should find welcome audiences on planes!

Here is what Panasonic told us about their cool, new, touch screen chameleon controller/handset: "Karma is a premium controller that easily adapts to the brand and functional requirements of our customer. The physical aspects of the controller never need to change; hardware is simply a canvas for the soft-based interaction design. Passengers are greeted with an intuitive interface that is fully customized to suit the brand requirements of the airline. Color, fonts, icons, even language are easily changed. And though the controller is a multi-modal device, the passenger’s interaction is point-specific, meaning that the menu structure and screen selections change as required for a given mode of operation. Confusion associated with the multi-buttoned controllers of today is eliminated. Wired and wireless solutions will be available." We asked about the Panasonic "Cool Room" since it is usually one of the hits of any IFE show Paul Margis, President said; “Panasonic is synonymous with innovations in technology. Our “cool room” was created to bring the latest cool concepts in their embryonic state to our customers to engage their feedback”. We really liked the product concept as present day IFE controllers have to pack so much in so little space. In our mind, this is an IFExpress Award Winner!
