Hot Topic: Bits & Pieces

We note with sadness the passing of John Barry, one of the familiar faces that graced every WAEA floor that we can remember. John's career established him as the consummate IFE Sales and Marketing executive and his warm smile and firm handshake was one of our requisite experiences at each convention. John was well known by his association with Transcom and Sony.

Here is an excerpt  from his obituary in the Desert Sun Newspaper: "John Gerald Barry, 76, of Indian Wells Country Club passed away peacefully on Monday, June 2, 2008 with his beloved wife Marge at his side. Retired from a successful career in sales and marketing, John loved to travel and in his 76 years he had been to virtually every country in the world. He had three passions in life: the happiness of his adoring wife of 20 years, "The Princess" Marge; playing golf and keeping in touch with his legion of good friends throughout the world. John was a passionate, charismatic, generous and unforgettable man who possessed an amazing appetite for life and friendship. Once he gave you his friendship, you had his loyalty and love forever." We could not agree more - John, we will miss you.

On another note, folks at Rockwell Collins tell us that the Cedar Rapid plants were spared from the devastating 75 year floods, but employees many employees have had their lives devastated. You can read more about the flood disaster at  http://www.rockwellcollins.com/floodrecovery/

We also note, Matt Smith, of Rockwell Collins Cabin Systems, has recently joined Panasonic Avionics.  Greg Steiner, formerly head of Rockwell Collins Passenger Systems and In-Flight Network, named president of  Kaman Aerospace.

And lastly, we have heard of the Second Annual Airline Retail Conference in Hertfordshire, United Kingdom (near uten Airport). We note this July 21-23 Conference for two reasons. In-flight Duty Free and Sales will be even more important as an airline revenue source in the years to come and because they have seat-back IFE sales and Passenger Communication items in their agenda.
