Hot Topic: Mea Culpa!

Boy did we get some mail on our reporting about the China InFlight Entertainment Conference! Although we did not attend, we contacted individuals who did and we lightly reported on the show from those inputs. That's where we went wrong. Our communication on the conference was not terribly specific either. For example, we reported that one airline participated....we should have said, "One airline participated in the the agenda presentations..." One of participant sent a very nice email  about the conference and we thought that our readers might like to see what he wrote:

Hi Patricia,
I wanted to provide some additional information on the China IFEC Summit that you covered in last week's IFExpress. I should add that WAEA was proud to be a co-host of the event.

You reported that only one Chinese airline participated, which is not correct. At the event were representatives from China Eastern, China Southern, Air China, Sichuan Airlines, Hainan Airlines and Juneyao Airlines. In addition, media companies representing Chinese airlines included Asia Inflight, Zenith Air Media, AirMedia, China Aviation Media Group, Civil Aviation Management Magazine and China Eastern Media.

Yes, it would have been nice to have even more Chinese airlines participating. But for a first event, the formal surveys show that both the Chinese and other participants were pleased. Indeed 85% said they were interested in attending another such event.

Please let me know if you would like additional feedback on the event.

Best regards,

Richard Owen
Executive Director
World Airline Entertainment Association

More than anything, we probably damned the event with faint praise but we found very little published by the event organizers or their publicists. Perhaps we all can learn from this. We did so, however, because we had no first hand data and next year, we will attend. Apologies to our friends in China and we hope next year's show is a killer.
