Hot Topic: This Is Truly A Global Business
Upon further searching, we found that in the process of the flight, Airbus discovered a landing gear door sensor discrepancy and, alas, the flight was cut short. No doubt, new CEO Christian Streiff, does not need another burp in the A380 program, however, aerospace watchers are generally rooting for the European plane maker to get it right and get it off the ground. There is a lot of money at stake, both at airlines and in the Airbus boardroom. We have confidence that the new leadership and renewed efforts by Airbus employees will do just that. Still trying to find that elusive In-Flight Entertainment story, we discovered another news bit and note that Streiff has replaced A380 boss Charles Champion with A320 Chief, Mario Heinen. Not IFE, we were led to another Airbus story which put Qantas, a 10 A380 customer, in position to receive a $104 million payout for late deliveries… Read the article. Further searching on EADS we found that Russian pseudo-nationalized airplane manufacturing group, United Aircraft, recently purchased 5% of EADS, giving the European plane builders an interesting connection to low cost Russian engineers, titanium and new markets. Recent aircraft failures in Russia certainly point to a need for revitalization of that countries aviation sector - Read the article. More than a speculative investment as a result of booming oil profits, this deal has global ramifications. EADS is looking for a chance to garner a lucrative US military tanker deal but with the Russians involved, Boeing may be wringing their hands is glee. Still no In-Flight Entertainment story….and then we realized, the WAEA Conference is a week away, and if history is correct, manufacturers of entertainment equipment will no doubt be holding stories to release at the show. One out early is from Israel’s Starling Advance Communication new Ku Band antenna sure to show up in Miami and display their MIJET antenna for curious airlines and techies alike. Read the article. There, we made if full circle on a slow IFE news day while
