Hot Topic: The Twenty Dollar Deal of the Century!
It's
called magicJack and you had better get one for traveling. How would you
like to make unlimited calls within in the US and Canada or unlimited calls
outside the US to the US for $20 A YEAR. Yep, it is true. The award winning
telephony solution is the brainchild of Dan Borislow of Tel-Sav fame. The
device is a Wi-Fi enabled, USB dongle that uses a RJ-11 jack for a standard
telephone handset - just plug it in, wait for the setup and you are making
the cheapest telephone calls we have ever seen. The magicJack service
includes at no additional cost beyond $20 per year - local and long distance
calling, a phone number, voice mail, directory assistance, call waiting,
3-way calling, call forwarding and all for the $20 price. We have ordered
ours and will give our readers an update later. We talked to one user that
found an old, flat Swatch handset that he puts in his computer briefcase and
travels and talks everywhere via free Wi-Fi hotspots. What a deal! You can
find more about magicJack at the link below. One caution, the unit works
unless your Wi-Fi provider blocks VOIP (some do) and to date, they have
call-in phone numbers representing only 32 cities in the US... who cares?
Now about Inflight Entertainment. Does it work on Wi-Fi equipped airplanes? We haven't a clue but we think not, especially if the Wi-Fi provider has specifically blocked VOIP. Let us know if you try it and we will report it to our readers.
